Guide to a Title Sequence

Hi Mediastudiers. It's me again. This post is about the title sequence for my film, The Girl Across the Street. A title sequence is where films present their movie title, cast members, and production. This was the easiest part of editing my film. It was basically just adding the opening credits and the title card of the film. I added the film title using the Focus effect on iMovie. It added the letters of the title one by one to the screen. I also considered using the Pop-Up effect where the words appear on the screen from left to right in a wave-like format. The Gravity effect was also brought into consideration as the letters fell from the top of the screen to the middle. Then it fell and disappeared to the bottom of the screen. In the end, I decided to go with the Focus effect as it looked better than my other choices and it was more formatted. I also added this effect to every scene that contained a title sequence. I think its Here are the examples of the effect I chose and the...

Guide to Final Project Feelings

Image
Hi Mediastudiers, it's me again. Great news, I AM FINALLY FINISHED WITH MY PROJECT!!! Wow, the time went by so fast. This project was very fun to work on even without partners. I wrote a lot of blog posts which got tiring at times but they were important because they all help to tie into the final results. I would like to thank my brother for his help with my project as he provided his insight and acting abilities (LOL😂). I would also like to thank my friend, Cassidy, who suggested I used iMovie and gave me tips on how to use it.  I remember when we were first introduced to the project. I was nervous because I thought I was going to have a hard time with the writing and an even harder time filming as I have never had a project where I had to edit the clips. I went into this project feeling that I would have a hard time with the film but it turns out it wasn't so bad after all. I feel very proud of the results of my video and editing skills and I hope you enjoy it too.

Guide to Color Usage

Image
Hi Mediastudiers. I t's me again.  Colors are a funny thing huh. They can shape the theme and mood of your topic. It is likely to match your theme to the color of your project. My project is about a stalker/ mysterious person stalking a girl. The color to go with this theme is black because black conveys a mysterious tone. If you can remember, my blog theme wasn't always black, until recently. It was mostly a light/dark grey. I felt that I needed to transition to a darker color to fit the theme of my project and to make it look more simple and elegant. The color black is a very significant color because it can symbolize elegance and sophistication or night and darkness. For my project, the color black symbolizes night and darkness. I decided to film my project at night because I wanted to portray the stalking discreetly so the girl was unable to see. The color black screams "bad guy". Despite the fact that black is worn by people from many walks of life, it is general...

Guide To Editing: Part 2

Hi Mediastudiers, it's me again, back with another editing post.  I have spent a significant amount of time on this project. A couple months to be exact. On editing, I would say I spent a total of two days editing. I did most of the editing on day one like picking the clips o wanted to use, adding the clips to iMovie, and picking and adding the sound. Now for the supposed easier part, adding text. I said supposed easier part because the text was very difficult for me to add. I wanted to add a different text style to my film that iMovie didn’t provide. I was told by a friend that I can add different text to iMovie using PicsArt. Wow. I didn’t know what could be done. You can do this by going to PicsArt and opening a blank page. Type the text you want and style your text. When done, save the image to your camera roll, go back to iMovie, add it to the film from your photos and select ‘in picture’. I did all that but also wanted some transition but I couldn’t have both☹️. In the end, I...

Guide to Lighting

Image
Hi Mediastudiers,  It's me again! In this post, I'll be blogging about the lighting used in my project. The lighting used in my project comes from the street lights in my community and natural lighting from the moon. My film did not require much lighting because it gave the dark effect I wanted for my project. I didn't add lighting post-production as it was not needed.  There is not really much I have to say about the lighting. So that's all I have for this post😁.

Guide to "Group" Dynamics

Image
Hi Mediastudiers, it's me again. It's gearing towards the end of my blog journey. It seems like yesterday we were given our first assignment. Wow, how time goes by fast. Speaking of assignments, in this post I will talk about the people that helped me film my video. First, let's talk about me.  I am the main contributor to this project as I did all the writing, editing, planning, and some of the filming myself. Again, I decided to do this project myself to give myself the option to do this on my own time because I have a very busy schedule. I did everything for this project from the filming to the editing. I feel that I learned a lot more about filming and editing than I did before, for example, I used iMovie for the first time with editing and I learned to make my way around the app.  For the project, I had help from my brother. He played the stalker in my project. That's the only reason I used my brother. He also made some suggestions on what to do with my film, for e...

Guide to Editing: Part 1

Image
Hi Mediastudiers, its me again, your favorite blogger... idk just though I might try something new. Anyway, today Ill be editing my video and taking you through the process of what I did and how I did it. Surprisingly, it wasn't that hard given that the iMovie app did most of the work for me. The day after I finished filming, I got to work to do the editing as I was behind schedule because I started my film late due to setbacks. I recorded about 20 video clips. I watched all 20 clips and choose the ones I wanted. I used 10 of the clips to make my movie, some shorter than the others. Once, watched all 10 clips, I added them to iMovie in the order I wanted them in. I initially added 8 clips in the beginning and added the other 2 after I synced the other clips together to have my clips.  Now that I have added the clips, I had to work on the sound. First, I knew I had to add non-diegetic sound to the background of my video. I had to pick a sound that conveyed a mysterious tone to match...

Guide to Representation

Image
Who is Represented within your film Hi Mediastudiers. Two days in a row. Wow. Anyway, I'm back.  Today, I'll be discussing the representation in my film of the group/ groups of people I am trying to represent. I think in this film, I am mainly trying to represent runners/ track athletes, psycho dads, and stalkers.  High school track athletes, especially ones that are serious about making it to the college tracks, undergo t raining that helps the body to progressively increase strength and endurance, enhance skill levels, and increase desire, ambition, and confidence. My character, Elaine, trains every day by going on a morning jog before school, then she has track practice/workout after school, and at the end of the day, she goes on a nightly jog/run. I'd like to believe that I was portraying a typical athlete even though all I did was run. I feel that the character is perfect and I don't need to make changes to her.  Now, onto the stalker, Mr. Jones Not only is Mr...

Guide to The Second Day of Filming

Image
Describe if you needed a second day of filming together or if you filmed independently for some scenes. Hi Mediastudiers, I'm back. It's Spring Break and this is my second day of filming!!! I know it's been a while since my first day but today we got everything done. Well, everything filming-wise. On the first day, I filmed the first scene of my film but I decided not to use those clips so on day 2 we started fresh. Day 1 was not a waste though, I decided what I didn't want to do and was able to finish the filming process between 30 to 45 minutes.  Here's a walkthrough/summary of each scene: 1) The intro was filmed which included diegetic sounds from nature which I think was one of the highlights of my film.  2) I was filmed in my driveway getting ready for a run. I was seen putting my headphones in and stretching before starting my run.  3) My brother was filmed emerging from a dark area and hiding behind a tree watching.  4+5) I was recorded running from the side ...

Guide to Supporting Character Analysis

Hi Mediastudiers. It's me again, lol. For this post, I was tasked to write about the supporting characters in my film but I had no supporting characters in my film, only the main characters. I don't really know what to do about this post. Maybe I'll delete this post and make a new post. We'll see.  Bye for now :)

Guide to an Equipment Post

Image
Hi Mediastudiers, it's me again. This is going to be a short post describing the equipment I used to film and edit my opening film.  First off, I used the iPhone 13 Pro Max as a video camera and took advantage of the cinematic mode. You may vary the focus, as well as play with the foreground and background selections, add depth-of-field effects for sharp pictures, or a soft, blurred background effect. You may also change all of these settings after you've shot the video. Cinematic Mode allows you to choose how you want to record your next shot.  Secondly, I used the app, iMovie to edit my film. It's never been easier to make spectacular, cinema-quality films and let your creativity run wild with iMovie. It was the easiest option for me because I filmed with an apple product and all I had to do was select the videos I wanted to use and edit. I could also delete and add videos.  Those were all the equipment used for the film. Thank you for reading =)

Guide to Sound Editing

Hi Mediastudiers. It's me again. Today I'm blogging about how I edited the sound for my project.  As you already know and I have said multiple times, I was working on the project by myself so I will be doing everything myself.  Ok, back to editing. I used the app iMovie to edit my video and my sound. Yes, the iMovie app is that flexible. After finishing the first edit of my video, it went to the add media button and pressed audio and searched for music that may fit the theme of my story. After a long and tiring search, I found 3 different music choices that would best fit with my video. I ended up choosing the one I liked best and it was more eery than the rest.  After selecting the audio, it was automatically spread over the whole video which would make it a diegetic sound which are sounds that don't exist in the film world and can't be heard by the actors. I played the video to see how it sounded and it was bland, not a worth project so I got to work. I decided t...

Guide to SPRING BREAK!!!!

Image
HI, MEDIASTUDIERS!!!! It's me again coming to you live from Orlando, FL( in a couple of hours)  You may be asking why I'm telling you this. Well, it's SPRING BREAK!!! WOOT!!WOOT!! Finally, a break from school. Well, not really as I still have assignments to do over the break 😩. But not this weekend, it is Friday, and my family and I are on the way to Orlando, FL for a volleyball tournament I have at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex for the AAU Volleyball Classics Tournament. Yes, I am very excited. Well, I have 3 hours in the car and loads of homework to do so I'll get started because I have assignments due this weekend and I probably won't have the time to complete them.  Update: It's 7:00 the next day. I finished most of my homework in the car yesterday so ill just finish the rest after this update. Its Saturday and I have to be at the sports complex at 12:00 to watch the younger team play before my game, you know, to offer some support. After I finish ...

Guide to Editing: Bloopers😂

Hi Mediastudiers, and welcome back to my blogsite. In this post, I will share some of the bloopers from my mini-movie. I had so much fun filming with my brother as you can see in the following videos. It gave us a chance to hang out more as I am a senior in high school and he's in his last year of college, which means we have different schedules and don't see each other often.  A little background information: A blooper is a small clip showing a mistake made by the people in the film. It is most likely to be funny. The making of this film was fun for the 3-days we recorded for.

Guide To First Day of Shooting

Hi Mediastudiers. Thank you for revisiting my blog. In this post, I will walk you through my first day of shooting my film, FINALLY!!! As you may have read in a previous post, I had to delay the time I filmed due to schedule issues with my brother and I; but luckily we got that figured out and fast too.  Ok so my first day went like this:  I woke up early on March 16 and planned with my brother to film that night as that time fit the theme of the film. He then went about his business while I wrote the monologues that would be used in the film. That day was a really busy day for me as are most weekends because I have my chores, and I have work,  luckily I don't work long hours today. Then after work, I have practice and today is the day I promised my mom that I would go shopping with her. I came back home around 7 after leaving at 12. Unfortunately, I did not get to finish the monologues but that can be done and recorded after the filming of the video. As I needed co...

Guide to NOT FILMING!!!!

Hi Mediastudiers, Happy March!!!   Well, not so happy March for me because I have stumbled on a dilemma. This post was should contain what I did on my first day of filming but unfortunately, I won't be able to film this weekend or next weekend. This is due to scheduling issues between my brother and I. You may be thinking, "Rohalia, why not film in the week"?. Yes, I did think of that but my brother has midterms and late nights on his college campus. If he isn't available soon, I might have to find someone else to do my project with or change my whole project completely. That means coming up with a new idea, rewriting my previous posts about the theme, and oh, I can't forget, making another mood board. That would be very stressful for me at this moment.  Anyway, it was nice catching up with you, see ya =)
